Young raccoons leave their nest for the very first time; trustingly they follow their mother on a bridge-like branch over an inky void, with only the full moon to offer assistance. This design and title came to me all at once; after I had personally witnessed young raccoons climbing out of a hole in tree to follow their mother. Thanks to some wildlife rehabilitation friends of mine; I was able to photograph baby raccoons actually posed on a branch, and they hadn't been on one yet! Using my unadulterated photographs, I believe that I really captured their apprehension and courage.”    -Peter R. Gerbert
