"I spent more time researching this piece than any other painting before it. I wanted to make sure that the setting had the correct time of year for the chicks to be present; with the correct wildflowers and such. Direction of sunlight became a big factor with this piece as well. I had to resort to the use of some fluorescent paints to get try to get the foreground to look like the sun is touching it. Spending a great deal of time observing a family of Sandhill Cranes was a pleasure!"           -Peter R. Gerbert
