   “A play of contrast and colors, the Great Egret's fanned out breeding plumage became a surrealistic background; creating a nice separation from the extreme realism in the foreground. The branches and bird were built up with thick gesso and layers of paint, actually creating some sculpted-detail. It embosses the piece and adds to the illusion of depth. Much more visible when viewing the actual painting vs. a JPEG.”    -Peter G
