"If I told you how much habitat study, direction of sunlight analyses, close up photography, detailed pencil sketching and color comparison I did before I felt I was able to start this painting, you would not believe me. "One Took to the Sky... " is a scene that I encountered one day while relaxing in my boat in a cove on a wild river. It was getting to be late in the afternoon. The Great Egret took wing to venture off to another part of the river and at the same moment the Red-Bellied Turtle slid from his log, as if with a retaliating gesture. The flowering Pickerel Weed made for a great foreground and yes, that's the true color of the water the way the sky was reflecting off of it that day." -Peter R. Gerbert
