“After becoming certified open-water scuba diver in 2008, I did a number of dives in spring-fed Florida Rivers. All the while desiring to dive and photograph the coral reefs in the Atlantic Ocean, for some confidently new painting designs. It’s a bit intimidating to go miles offshore in deep water and actually do such a thing. After putting it off a few times, I finally went thru with it last month, doing two dives in the Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary. There can’t be anything quite like the adrenaline rush of putting on all the encumbering scuba-gear required and then letting your body roll backwards out of a boat, into a choppy sea… into the complete unknown...
It was absolutely the adventure of a lifetime. That’s me in the still from video (at left!)
When they say “it’s another world down there,” they’re not being expressive enough! It is my goal, and I am now working on, an original piece that will make you feel as though you’re there: in an underwater realm of unfamiliar landscapes composed of amazing coral structures, with intensely colorful fishes. The ceiling over 30 feet above your head, is the ceiling of the ocean.
My latest two completed original paintings are featured below in this e-newsletter. I’ll hope to show my new underwater painting tentatively titled “Voyage to the Bottom of the Coral Reef” at my art shows, a bit later in the spring. If the timing works, I might unveil it in my studio during my next open house.
Hope that all is well with you, and I’ll hope to see you at one of my art shows, or my next Art Studio -Open House Weekend. Forward this e-newsletter to friends or business contacts, if you feel so inclined!

My work is inspired by what I enjoy the most, my research into Florida’s most pristine places. A creative design with thrilling realism is my objective.” -Peter G

Audubon of Florida News
If You Had the Power to Keep Roseate Spoonbills Nesting in the Everglades, Would You?

Posted on November 23rd, 2011 in Everglades, Florida Bay, Tavernier Center
That is the question Audubon’s Dr. Jerry Lorenz faces every day as he leads a band of researchers into marshes and mangrove swamps to monitor the results of Everglades restoration.
Scientists are on the verge of demonstrating that freshwater flows are critical to the success of wading birds in the Everglades. But now dramatic cuts in government funds are cutting off the money Jerry and his science team need to keep going. To replace those lost funds, Audubon needs to raise $35,500 from people who care about the wildlife of the Everglades. Your contribution will keep these hardworking scientists in the field gathering the data we need to protect Everglades wildlife.
Everglades restoration depends on sound science. You can help Jerry and his research team today. Your contribution will be matched dollar for dollar by a foundation that has encouraged Audubon to focus on the science needed for Everglades restoration. As an added bonus, the first ten donations of $275 or more will receive a signed, limited edition canvas print of the beautiful painting "The Spoonbill Lagoon" by Peter R. Gerbert – a gorgeous gift for yourself or the nature-lover you know…

Acrylics on Gessobord with 3-D Texture & UV Varnish   Image size 14 by 20 inches, outside framing dimensions 22 by 28 inches      $4,500.00
The branches and bird were built-up with thick gesso and many layers of paint, actually creating sculpted-detail with three-dimensional depth. All of which diffuses into a surreal background of color and the Great Egret’s fanned out breeding-feathers, adding to the incredible deepness of this painting. A real collector’s piece! Other new works are in progress and will be displayed as completed during the spring art show schedule!

“Now would be the perfect time to make an investment in this artist’s original artwork.
Don’t wait until the value skyrockets to make a purchase! You will have a missed golden opportunity.”
